Levels 1 to 3 are equivalent to Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

ESP-0101 Level 1

This course introduces learners to basic Spanish for everyday communication. They learn how to greet people, introduce themselves and share information about themselves, such as their phone number, address, nationality and family members. The handbook also details how to describe personal tastes and routine activities, use -ir verbs, and discuss travel or vacations. The alphabet, numbers and ordinal numbers are covered in a simple and practical way.  

ESP-0102 Level 2

This course expands learners’ skills so they can communicate more easily in everyday situations. They learn how to talk about habits and daily routines, describe their personality and express their tastes and preferences. The course also covers the present tense of regular, irregular and reflexive verbs, and touches on topics such as the home, neighbourhoods, stores and services, and spatial orientation. Health-related expressions using the verb doler are also taught.

ESP-0103 Level 3

This course builds and expands communication skills and explores personal themes and past experiences. Learners are taught how to express their preferences and interests, show agreement or disagreement, and give their opinion. The pretérito indefinido verb tense is introduced to talk about vacations, share biographical information, report events and describe the weather. The handbook also covers physical descriptions, comparisons, clothing and shopping, as well as how to express opinions, make suggestions and justify choices. 

Levels 4 to 6 are equivalent to Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

ESP-0104 Level 4

This course helps learners express their ideas and opinions in a more accurate and structured way. They learn how to talk about what they know, what is difficult, and their needs and obligations, as well as how to propose solutions and give instructions. The course also covers describing ongoing actions, habits, past situations and the steps of an activity. Lastly, the handbook develops skills for organizing and evaluating outings, proposing, accepting or rejecting ideas, presenting and responding to arguments, adding information, and expressing wishes simply.

ESP-0105 Level 5

This course expands communication skills to describe occupations and past or present experiences. Learners are taught how to report events and express wishes, conditions and hypotheses, and how to use direct and indirect object pronouns to avoid repetition. It also develops learners’ ability to describe works of art, talk about social media, and participate in more complex interactions, for example by offering advice or confirming information. The aim is to improve oral fluency and accuracy.

ESP-0106 Level 6

This course helps learners communicate more effectively in everyday and formal situations by discussing plans, making predictions and expressing varying degrees of certainty. It teaches learners how to express feelings, make suggestions, ask for favours or permission, and give advice, orders and instructions clearly. This course also covers expressing prohibitions, describing real or hypothetical elements, and referring to unspecified people. Lastly, it highlights the use of tenses to situate activities in time and talk about present or past habits and customs.

ESP-0107 Spanish 7 et ESP-0108 Spanish 8 are equivalent to Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The courses use Español En Marcha 3 resources, developed by SGEL, Spain’s leading publisher.
