Offered through Université de Saint-Boniface’s online learning platform, eCampus, this course is designed for intermediate to advanced learners and features activities focused on respectful self-affirmation in professional, social and personal contexts. It develops your ability to express your ideas, intentions and emotions in a non-aggressive manner while being mindful of the feelings of others.
This course is offered online and is self-directed. It includes all the teaching material required (theory lessons, video clips, learning activities and assessments) to give you the greatest possible flexibility as you work through the course lessons independently and at your own pace.
Topics
This self-directed course is based on activities that will help you learn more about assertive communication, think about how you can use it in your daily life, and start putting it into practice. You will learn to:
- recognize the difference between assertive, aggressive and passive communication;
- examine the thought patterns that have a positive or negative effect on communication;
- explain the links between self-confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness;
- recognize assertive communication through examples and case studies;
- assess your own level of assertiveness and identify areas for improvement;
- apply elements of assertive communication and develop a personal action plan to continue improving your assertiveness.
