Learn to speak French in a relaxed setting!
This program for beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners helps you build vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and speak more fluently while learning about Francophone culture. A conversation circle complements the intermediate and advanced courses to promote group speaking practice.
Levels and topics
Our practical and learner-friendly program is an opportunity to learn French through interactive activities and Canadian course material developed by the Continuing Education Division. Each course covers topics that come up in real-life, everyday conversations.
We offer 11 beginner to advanced level courses for adults. Advanced level courses can be taken in any order. Visit the page À vous! collection for the Conversational French program for level and topic descriptions.
The conversation circle provides an opportunity to discuss various topics with peers at the same language level, guided by an experienced instructor, in a relaxed atmosphere.
Designed for intermediate and advanced learners, the conversation circle is offered once a week in the evening for a total of 20 hours (2 hours/week for 10 weeks). Learners can register after having taken a course at the corresponding level in the past 12 months.

Instructors
Our instructors are experienced individuals from diverse Francophone backgrounds. They encourage learners to develop their conversational skills through an experiential, communicative approach where French is learned primarily through practice and interaction with others.
A placement test is required if the learner’s level is not known at the time of registration. Simply select “unknown level” on the registration form, if applicable.
The placement test is not necessary if learners have no knowledge of the language they wish to learn. They can just choose FRO-0101 Beginner 1 when they register.

Course confirmation
Registration and course details will be confirmed by email or phone on the Thursday before the first class.
Refunds
A partial refund (minus the cost of your handbook and a $43 administration fee) can be requested before the second class. A full refund will be issued if the course is cancelled or the schedule is changed by the Continuing Education Division.
