A Project To Brighten The Future

Architectural mock-up of the learning and childcare services centre.

Université de Saint-Boniface will establish an on-campus learning and daycare centre to support students and staff with children as well as the neighbouring Francophone community. This new 8,360 sq. ft. building will be able to accommodate 80 children (16 infants and 64 preschool-age children).

The Government of Canada has provided a generous contribution of $2.1M to support the $6.6M project. Additionally, the Province of Manitoba has invested $900,000 in the centre and a noteworthy contribution has come from our students, who raised $750,000. Further to organizing the project, USB has committed to contributing over $1.87M and collecting $1M in private donations for the creation of the learning and daycare centre.

Project Overview

  • Build a learning and daycare centre on campus to help address the shortage of daycare spots in the Franco-Manitoban community.
  • Attract and retain students who have children by helping them reconcile their family needs with their studies.
  • Provide our students in the Early Childhood Education program with a dynamic and interactive practicum setting.
  • Contribute to the growth of Manitoba’s Francophonie by giving the next generation a head start through a high-quality
    daycare in a stimulating environment.
  • Strengthen USB’s position as an employer of choice by providing its employees with a high-quality daycare in the workplace.

A Pressing Need

A French-language learning and daycare centre is being established at USB to address the urgent need for additional childcare spots. According to a recent study, Manitoba is one of the provinces with the most pressing needs in this regard. In Winnipeg, 44% of children under the age of four live in so-called “childcare deserts.” The situation is even more difficult for families seeking a Francophone daycare, as confirmed both by a survey of the USB community and the long wait lists at each of the four learning centres in St. Boniface.

Let's Build The Future Together

We firmly believe that with your support, we will reach our fundraising goal and improve the lives of our students, our community and, most importantly, our children, the Francophone leaders of tomorrow.
