Vice-President, Academics & Research

Originally from Montréal, Jean-Christian Pleau studied French literature at the undergraduate level at the Université de Montréal. He went on to earn a PhD in French literature from Yale University in 1995, focusing on early twentieth-century novels and the links between fiction and political discourse.
A specialist in French literature and an experienced academic administrator, Dr. Pleau has more than twenty-five years of expertise in teaching, research, and university administration. He taught in Switzerland and New Zealand before joining the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where he served as Associate Dean, Dean, and Vice-President of Academic Affairs.
Committed to the Francophonie and to advancing postsecondary education in minority settings, he has been serving as Vice-President, Teaching and Research at USB since June 2025.
