Would You Like to Become a Doctor or Study Medicine?
USB can provide you with the best path to get there, and you can do it all in French!*
Thanks to a partnership with CNFS, there are 8 spaces reserved at the University of Ottawa for French-speaking students from provinces and territories outside of Ontario and Quebec who would like to study medicine in French. Graduates from the Université de Saint-Boniface with a bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, but also in the Arts, Social Work or Business Administration) are well positioned to secure these spaces. With medicine being such a competitive field, these spaces increase students’ chances of realizing their dream. Assessment is application-based and candidates are not required to write the MCAT.
CNFS also provides financial support to students for travel to Ottawa and during clinical placements with bilingual family physicians in Manitoba.
Why is USB a good springboard to pursue medical studies?
- No MCAT required.
- It increases your chances of being admitted to limited-enrolment programs in medicine.
- Our small classes provide you with the support and attention that you need to develop your skills and succeed.
- Our professors know their students well, which means they can write more personalized letters of recommendation, strengthening your application.
- Opportunity to do clinical rotations in French in your community, right here in Manitoba.
Admissions
The first step is to apply for admission (in French only) to one of our 3- or 4-year undergraduate programs.
*Medical studies are only available to Canadian citizens.

Another option for accessing Medical school:
By completing your undergraduate studies at USB, you can gain the knowledge required to become a medical student while improving your language skills. The University of Manitoba’s College of Medicine reserves three spaces French-speaking students who would like to study medicine in Manitoba, subject to completing the MCAT. All of the training is provided in English at the University of Manitoba. However, thanks to support from CNFS, professional development workshops are offered in French, as well as clinical placements with bilingual family physicians in Manitoba.
